Contaminated regular unleaded petrol safety warning extended for Eyre Peninsula
COMMUNITY SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT

Caltex Australia has extended its community safety announcement as a precautionary measure to include the whole of Eyre Peninsula area from Penong to Cowell following further testing and investigation of possibly contaminated fuel.

Sales of regular unleaded petrol have been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure pending tests results from the following sites:

- Cowell Roadhouse
- Curtis's Garage - Tumby Bay
- Wudinna Roadhouse
- Tonks Auto - Tumby Bay
- Penong Truckstop
- Nicholl's Garage - Ceduna
- Caltex Service Station Port Lincoln (Hallett Place)
- Stutzers Garage Port Lincoln
- Tonk and Jakes - Ceduna
- Arno Bay service station

Sales have also been temporarily suspended from the Port Lincoln Terminal and the Caltex depots at Ceduna and Cleve.

This possibly contaminated fuel may be a safety threat to any user of ultra-light aircraft, marine craft powered by an outboard motor or other high-revving two stroke motors because the engines may fail.

Sales of regular unleaded petrol were suspended at Lehmann's Roadhouse Cleve, Caltex depot at Cleve and Arno Bay service station last week following indication of possible contamination.

Caltex took action to immediately suspend regular unleaded petrol sales from these sites after initial testing indicated possible contamination. A comprehensive investigation is under way checking fuel from terminal supply at Port Lincoln through to site tanks.

Caltex Vortex premium petrol and diesel fuel supply is unaffected.

Any motorist who purchased regular unleaded petrol from these service stations between 19 May and 12 July and who may have experienced performance problems (such as hard starting or rough idling) should contact the Caltex Customer feedback line on 1800 240 398.

If customers have any concerns about irregular engine performance Caltex recommends the engine is checked by a mechanic. If problems caused by contaminated fuel are not addressed it may lead to engine problems.

Caltex sincerely apologises to any customers who may have been affected by purchasing this fuel and will continue to keep the community informed as more information comes to hand.
