Contaminated regular unleaded petrol safety
warning extended for Eyre Peninsula

COMMUNITY SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT
Caltex Australia has extended its community safety announcement as
a precautionary measure to include the whole of Eyre Peninsula area
from Penong to Cowell following further testing and investigation
of possibly contaminated fuel.
Sales of regular unleaded petrol have been temporarily suspended as
a precautionary measure pending tests results from the following
sites:
- Cowell Roadhouse
- Curtis's Garage - Tumby Bay
- Wudinna Roadhouse
- Tonks Auto - Tumby Bay
- Penong Truckstop
- Nicholl's Garage - Ceduna
- Caltex Service Station Port Lincoln (Hallett Place)
- Stutzers Garage Port Lincoln
- Tonk and Jakes - Ceduna
- Arno Bay service station
Sales have also been temporarily suspended from the Port Lincoln
Terminal and the Caltex depots at Ceduna and Cleve.
This possibly contaminated fuel may be a safety threat to any user
of ultra-light aircraft, marine craft powered by an outboard motor
or other high-revving two stroke motors because the engines may
fail.
Sales of regular unleaded petrol were suspended at Lehmann's
Roadhouse Cleve, Caltex depot at Cleve and Arno Bay service station
last week following indication of possible contamination.
Caltex took action to immediately suspend regular unleaded petrol
sales from these sites after initial testing indicated possible
contamination. A comprehensive investigation is under way checking
fuel from terminal supply at Port Lincoln through to site
tanks.
Caltex Vortex premium petrol and diesel fuel supply is
unaffected.
Any motorist who purchased regular unleaded petrol from these
service stations between 19 May and 12 July and who may have
experienced performance problems (such as hard starting or rough
idling) should contact the Caltex Customer feedback line on 1800
240 398.
If customers have any concerns about irregular engine performance
Caltex recommends the engine is checked by a mechanic. If problems
caused by contaminated fuel are not addressed it may lead to engine
problems.
Caltex sincerely apologises to any customers who may have been
affected by purchasing this fuel and will continue to keep the
community informed as more information comes to hand.
