Caltex achieves milestone of 200 service
stations selling Bio E10 Unleaded ethanol blended petrol
November 15, 2007
Caltex today announced it had reached a new milestone with its
ethanol blended petrol now available at over 200 Caltex supplied
sites in eastern Australia.
Bio E10 Unleaded, which contains 10 percent ethanol blended with
regular unleaded petrol, is sold in the Caltex network from
Canberra to Cairns, with the product offered at 114 sites in New
South Wales, 81 in Queensland and 6 in the ACT.
"Achieving the 200 site milestone for Bio E10 Unleaded is a great
achievement for Caltex and our customers," Caltex Managing Director
and CEO Des King said. "It demonstrates Caltex's commitment to the
development of Australia's fledgling biofuels industry.
"Climate change and energy security are important emerging issues,"
Mr King said. "More Caltex customers now have the choice of ethanol
blended petrol that helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and
Australia's reliance on fossil fuels.
"Caltex also sells New Generation Diesel containing 2 per cent
biodiesel at over 150 sites in New South Wales. This is in addition
to the 5 and 20 per cent biodiesel blends sold to commercial
customers.
"Caltex achieved its volume target for 2006 under the Australian
Government's Biofuels Action Plan and has already achieved its
target for 2007. Caltex remains committed to achieving its annual
targets under the Plan through to 2010.
"We are investing in storage terminal and service station upgrades
in New South Wales and Queensland to sell increased quantities of
ethanol and biodiesel blends. We have contracts in place for
ethanol and biodiesel supply and are seeking additional supply
contracts for biodiesel in particular.
"Caltex supports the development of a market-driven and sustainable
biofuels industry based on consumer confidence, reliable supply and
competitive prices throughout the supply chain. We remain opposed
to mandating the use of biofuels including ethanol blends."
