Caltex owns and operates two fuels refineries with a combined capacity of 36.5 million litres per day. This makes Caltex the largest refiner of crude oil in Australia.
The Kurnell refinery is located on the southern shore of Botany Bay in Sydney 's southeast. It has a crude oil capacity of 19.8 million litres per day. Commissioned in 1956, it is the largest refinery in NSW and the second largest of the seven fuels refineries in Australia based on crude run capacity.
The Lytton refinery is located at the mouth of the Brisbane River, south of the Brisbane CBD. The refinery has a 16.8 million litres per day capacity. Commissioned in 1965, it is the largest refinery in Queensland and fifth largest fuels refinery in Australia.
Caltex also owns and operates a 600 thousand litre per day lubricating oil refinery located adjacent to the Kurnell fuels refinery in Sydney. The Caltex Lubricating Oil Refinery (CLOR), originally known as Australian Lubricating Oil Refinery, came on stream in January 1964. It is the only lubricating oils refinery in Australia.
