| The Kurnell refinery continues to be an active participant in the evolution and development of Kurnell village. Through the Kurnell Festival of the Sails and other activities we have worked with the community to assist in transforming the village from an industrial area to one which offers a vision of the future and a good quality of life to its residents.
Refinery employees have worked with the Sutherland Shire Council to gain national recognition for Cook's Landing Place , the birthplace of European settlement in Australia, and the First Meeting Place, a place of quiet reconciliation.
Kurnell refinery's active involvement in the local community is also evident in the wide range of community organisations and activities it supports. Likewise, the Lytton refinery provides support for a range of local environmental, youth and sporting organisations.
Refinery staff continue to progress the revegetation of the buffer zone between the refinery and the adjacent Fort Lytton National Park. Further native vegetation has been planted near the fence line using decontaminated soil.
Lytton also aids local primary schools through a schools support and education program aimed at encouraging interest in science, as well as through an annual grant to the schools' libraries.
