Canopy® was the first spray oil registered as
an insecticide in cotton. Canopy®'s claims for its
insecticidal activity, its soft option status, low phytotoxicity
risk and defoliant adjuvancy are all backed up by data from
extensive repeatable trials performed across a wide range of
Australian cotton growing conditions. Canopy® has undergone
replicated field trials in Emerald, St. George, the Darling Downs
and the Macintyre, Gwydir, Macquarie and the lower and upper Namoi
valleys. In fact, no other spray oil has been tested as much as
Canopy® with trials performed independently by CCA members,
QDPI, NSWAg and ACRI.

We've recently developed ways to take Canopy's proven
insecticidal activity against soft bodied pests into new areas.
Silverleaf whitefly has become a major concern for
cotton growers and Canopy is now an important IPM tool for its
control.

Our field trials have shown that using Canopy® in sprays
applied early - mid season can significantly reduce
Heliothis egg-lays on cotton.

Aphids, mirids, whitefly and helicoverpa don't only affect
cotton, with their prevalence in winter crops now
on the rise. Caltex has taken its IPM experience from the cotton
industry into these other crops to ensure these pests are
universally controlled in a sustainable and economical manner.
We've implemented a research strategy to assess how
Canopy performs in mixtures with glyphosate over
stacked gene cotton.

D-C-Tron® Plus was developed specifically for horticultural
IPM programs as a result of intensive research and strong
commitment for an effective solution by Caltex's R&D team
and our partners. All aspects of spray oil design and
application were explored and tested to create a superior
horticultural oil of optimum weight with maximum pesticidal
efficacy and minimum risk of phytotoxicity. D-C-Tron® Plus can
be used as a stand-alone insecticide or in combination with other
selected pesticides to provide more sustainable pest control
options for growers.
D-C-Tron Plus has proven a bonus for central Queensland's
vegetable growers who have used the product under permit in their
ongoing battle against silverleaf whitefly. In conjunction with
QDEEDI, the best ways to use D-C-Tron Plus are being explored by
Caltex and will soon be benefiting all growers.
Citrus is never far from our minds with the ongoing success of
D-C-Tron Plus. The increased focus on integrated pest management
and reduced pesticide use in both traditional and organic farming
is creating innovative ways to apply D-C-Tron Plus to control
age-old pests like red scale. The development of true IPM programs
in citrus using D-C-Tron Plus are soon expected to come to
fruition.
As a true innovator,
Caltex is always looking to take ideas we learn in other areas of
agriculture and apply them in places not usually thought of.
Prospect fits that bill - it's an extremely light oil - well
outside the range of traditional spray oils. We've been working
with SARDI over the years to provide the citrus export industry
with a product that allows them economical access to markets that
don't want to also import freeloading pests like light brown apple
moth and mealybug on harvested fruit.
