2017 Volvo Trucks Drivers’ Fuel Challenge
The Volvo Trucks Drivers’ Fuel Challenge is an international competition that challenges and rewards truck drivers for their fuel-efficient driving skills. The award was designed to increase awareness of how driver behaviour directly impacts fuel efficiency. The clear benefits – reduced fuel consumption and better environmental outcomes. This year’s event was held on the Gold Coast at Mt Cotton.
Caltex is proud to announce that Cameron Simpson, from I & M Simpsons in Alexandra Victoria, won the off road section. In addition Kerri Connor, who drives for Caltas in Tasmania, won the highly competitive two day on-road section.
Contestants were required to drive a pre-selected Volvo truck with I-Shift on a pre-defined route. They are accompanied by a Volvo Driver Trainer, who provided guidance along the way.
The winner was determined by a combination of safe driving, low fuel consumption while completing the route within an allotted time. Time is taken by a referee with the clocking starting the moment the engine is turned on until the engine is turned off.
After fierce competition on the Thursday, Cameron set up his victory with a tremendous drive in the off road session. The best 9 drivers from Thursday’s on-road session then progressed to the Friday final. Kerri set a strong pace, recording the best score in the Friday finals morning session and held onto win after completion of the second round. Both Kerri and Cameron will now compete in the finals in Gothenburg Sweden later this year. Kerri and Cameron were also recognised during a gala ceremony for this year’s winners.
The 2017 Volvo Trucks Drivers’ Fuel Challenge was a huge success for Caltex.
